Established as vicariate Apostolic of Southern Zanzibar, 1902; name changed to Dar-es-Salaam, 1906; entrusted to the Capuchins of Switzerland. Cassianus Spies was the first vicar Apostolic, an office now filled by Monsignor Zelger; residence at Dar-es-Salaam.
