Ecclesiastical Fabric

1910 New Catholic Dictionary

(Latin: fabrica ecclesire, construction of a church)

Usually the funds necessary for the construction, repairing, or maintenance of a church. During the first centuries these temporalities belonged to the cathedral church as a common fund; later each church held its separate patrimony. It also means the persons charged with church property administration, usually laymen, though in most European countries such affairs are under state regnlation. A special congregation is in charge of the fabric of Saint Peter's, Rome.
