A congregation of nuns founded at Baltimore, Maryland on July 2, 1829 by Father James Nicholas Joubert, a Sulpician, and Mother Mary Lange, OSP. It was the first congregation in the New World for women of African descent; their mission was the education of black children. The order has houses in 25 cities in the United States, Cuba, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, and in Africa. The mother-house is in Baltimore. See also the congregation's web site.
