1910 New Catholic Dictionary
Catholic geographer. Born 1475; died 1522. Drew up the first modern atlas of the world, a Latinized edition of Ptolemy's geography with 20 additional maps, used the name America in his world map (1507), and made a translation in Latin of the voyages of Amerigo Vespucci.
