A — 1: πεποίθησις
(Strong's #4006 — Noun Feminine — pepoithesis — pep-oy'-thay-sis )

akin to peitho, B, No. 1 below, denotes "persuasion, assurance, confidence," 2 Corinthians 1:15 ; 3:4 , AV, "trust;" 2 Corinthians 8:22 ; 10:2 ; Ephesians 3:12 ; Philippians 3:4 . See TRUST.

A — 2: ὑπόστασις
(Strong's #5287 — Noun Feminine — hupostasis — hoop-os'-tas-is )

lit., "a standing under" (hupo, "under," stasis, "a standing"), "that which stands, or is set, under, a foundation, beginning;" hence, the quality of confidence which leads one to stand under, endure, or undertake anything, 2 Corinthians 9:4 ; 11:17 ; Hebrews 3:14 . Twice in Heb. it signifies "substance," Hebrews 1:3 (AV, "Person") and Hebrews 11:1 . See SUBSTANCE.

A — 3: παρρησία
(Strong's #3954 — Noun Feminine — parrhesia — par-rhay-see'-ah )

often rendered "confidence" in the AV, is in all such instances rendered "boldness" in the RV, Acts 28:31 ; Hebrews 3:6 ; 1 John 2:28 ; 3:21 ; 5:14 . See BOLDNESS , OPENLY , PLAINNESS.

B — 1: πείθω
(Strong's #3982 — Verb — peitho — pi'-tho )

"to persuade," or, intransitively, "to have confidence, to be confident" (cp. A, No. 1), has this meaning in the following, Romans 2:19 ; 2 Corinthians 2:3 ; Galatians 5:10 ; Philippians 1:6,14 (RV, "being confident," for AV, "waxing confident"), 25; 3:3,4; 2 Thessalonians 3:4 ; Philemon 1:21 . B — 2: θαρρέω
(Strong's #2292 — Verb — tharreo — thar-hreh'-o )

"to be of good courage," is so translated in the RV of 2 Corinthians 5:6 ; 7:16 (AV, "to have confidence, or be confident"). See COURAGE.

Note: The adverb "confidently" is combined with the verb "affirm" to represent the verbs diischurizomai, Luke 22:59 ; Acts 12:15 , RV (AV, "constantly affirmed"), and diabebaioomai, 1 Timothy 1:7 , AV, "affirm," and Titus 3:8 , AV, "affirm constantly." See AFFIRM.
