Apollos (or Apollonius), St.
an abbot and confessor for the faith. At the age of fifteen years he retired into the Thebaid, where he lived a rigid and ascetic life, his only food being the wild herbs which the earth produced. After forty years of this solitary life he applied himself to the conversion of the heathen; and having brought over many to the faith, undergone many troubles, and, it is said, performed many miracles, he died about 395.
