a Reformed (Dutch) minister, was born in New York, November 3, 1798. He graduated from Union College in 1822, and from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1827; became pastor at North and South Hampton in 1829, a position which he retained until a few months before his death at Sweedsborough, N.J., August 23, 1867. He was a man of childlike, catholic spirit, and possessed a peculiar unction in prayer. He was eminent as a preacher. His theology was that of moderate Calvinism, and he held it with genuine charity towards all who differed from him.
