an eminent author and poet, was born at Stewards, near Rumford, Essex, England, in 1592. He was educated at Christ's College, Cambridge, and Lincoln's Inn. He occupied various civil. office until the rebellion of 1641 in Ireland, and he died September 8, 1644. Quarles was a man of learniig and ability, and the writer of many books in prose and verse, which are admirable for their moral and religious character.
