Zegedin (or Szegedin), Stephen Dan

an eminent Lutheran divine, was born at Zegedin, a city of Lower Hungary, in 1505. His family name was Kis. He studied under Luther and Melanchthon at Wittenberg, taught and preached Lutheranism in several cities in Hungary, and was taken prisoner by. the Turks, who treated him with great cruelty. He subsequently officiated as minister at Buda and in many other places. He died at Reven, in Hungary, May 2, 1572. He left the following works, which were afterwards published: Assertio de Trinitate (1573): Tabulae Analyticae in Prophetas, Psalmos, et Novum Testamentuna (1592): Speculuns Romanum Pontificum Historicum (1602).
