The 1901 Jewish Encyclopedia

1. A priest, chief of the seventh course, appointed by David (1 Chronicles 24:10). In this passage the ח is considered by the Septuagint to be the definite article, the name being "Ḳoẓ." 2. Progenitor of a post-exilic priestly family which, not being able to prove its genealogy, was removed from the priesthood (Ezra 2:61; Nehemiah 7:63). 3. Grandfather of Meremoth, who assisted Nehemiah in reconstructing the wall of Jerusalem (Nehemiah 3:4,21).
