1. = ἀλείατα, wheat-meal (opp. ἄλφιτα barley-meal, Hdt. 7.119; ἐκ μὲν τῶν κριθῶν ἄλφιτα σκευαζόμενοι, ἐκ δὲ τῶν πυρῶν ἄλευρα Pl. R. 372b, cf. Epin. 975b, X. An. 1.5.6, Arist. Pr. 863b2: in sg., Ar. Fr. 50, Sotad.Com. 1.24, Arist. Pr. 927a11, Theoc. 14.7.

The word (MGr ἀλεύρι ) is found in the long magical papyrus P Lond 121539 (iii/A.D.) ( = I. p. 101) : cf. ib. 1170 verso490 (A.D. 258–9) ( = III. p. 204) σάκκον ἀλεύρ [ο ]υ ̣, and ib. 98813 ( = III. p. 244) (iv/A.D.) αὐτὸς γὰρ τὰ ἑαυτοῦ ἔχι ἄλευρα .
