In the curious pamphlet on omens drawn from involuntary twitchings, P Ryl I. 28.161 (iv/A.D.), we find σφυρ [ ]ν δεξιὸν ἐὰν ἅλληται, α ̣̓γγ ̣ελίαν αὐτῷ σημαίνι ἀπροσδόκητον, ";if the right ankle quiver, it signifies that the person will have unexpected news."; The word is common in literature.
