Hebr. word expressive of contempt, Ev.Matthew 5:22 .
ῤακά (Tdf. ῤαχά; (the better accentuation seems to be ῤακά; cf. Kautzsch, Gram. d. Biblical-Aram., p. 8)), an Aramaic word רֵיקָא (but according to Kautzsch (as above), p. 10) not the stative emphatic of רֵיק, but shortened from רֵיקָן (Hebrew רִיק), empty, i. e. a senseless, empty-headed man, a term of reproach used by the Jews in the time of Christ (B. *ῥακά (T, ῥαχά ), usually taken to represent the Aram. רֵיקָא , a shortened form of H7386, " empty," as vocalized in the Galilæan dialect; an expression of contempt, raca: Matthew 5:22 (cf. DB, iv, 191 f.; and for other explanations, v. Zorell, s.v.).†

the Grecized form of the Apostle Paul’s Jewish name Σαούλ. For the phrase Σαῦλος ὁ καὶ Παῦλος (Acts 13:9), see s.v. Παῦλος, and cf. the discussion on ὁ καί s.v. ὁ (10). No instances of the name Σαῦλος are given in Preisigke’s Namenbuck, but an indecl. proper name Σαῦλ is cited from P Flor III. 280.17 (A.D. 514) τοῦ θαυμασ (ιωτάτου) Σαῦλ ἀκτου ̣αρίου.
