Qal Imperfect וַיִּגְהַר 1 Kings 18:42 followed by אַרְצָה Elijah, with face between knees; 2 Kings 4:34,35 Elisha, over dead boy, followed by עליו ("" וישׁכב 2 Kings 4:34, compare שׁכב).
גַּו, גֵּו see below גוה.

גָּהַר to bow oneself down, to prostrate oneself, to lay oneself down. 2 Kings 4:34, 35 2 Kings 4:35, used of Elisha in the raising of the dead child, עָלָיו יִּגְהַר “and he bowed himself upon him.” 1 Kings 18:42, וַיִּגְהַר אַרְצָה “and he cast himself down on the ground.” This signification, which the context almost demands, is expressed by all the ancient interpreters (except the Ch. and Arabic, 2 Ki.). The Syriac has the same word under the letters ܓܗܢܶ Ethpeal, to which answers the Ch. גְּחַן; see examples of the interchange of the letters ר and ן under the letter Nun.
