 I. דִּישֹׁן noun [masculine] a clean animal, ᵐ5 πύγαργος compare ᵑ9; hence AV RV & most

pygarg, a kind of antelope or gazelle, compare Di Leviticus 11:2f.; perhaps rather mountain-goat, Hom NS 391 compare Ethiopic version [ᵑ8̈]; only Deuteronomy 14:5 — (Hom l.c. derives from √ דושׁ with kindred meaning of spring, leap & compare Assyrian daššu; so already Dl S i. 54).

Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

דִּישׁוֹן m.

(1)  a species of gazelle, so called from its leaping and bounding; from the root דּוּשׁ pr. to tread, but prob. also i.q. דּוּץ to leap, whence דִּיצָא, ܕܝܰܨܐܳ wild goat, gazelle (comp. Bochart, Hieroz. ii. page 270 and Rosenm. on the place), Deuteronomy 14:5. LXX. πύγαργος, Syr. and Targ. ܪܝܺܡ, both the Arab. الاروى, all of which words denote a kind of gazelle.

(2) [Dishon], pr.n.

(a) of a son of Seir, also the name of a district in Edom, so called from him. Genesis 36:21, 30 Genesis 36:30; 1 Chronicles 1:38.

(b) a grandson of Seir, Genesis 36:25; 1 Chronicles 1:4.
