 [זֶ֫מֶר] noun [masculine] a certain animal allowed as food, most probably some kind of mountain-sheep or -goat (ᵑ6 ) וָזָמֶ֑ר Deuteronomy 14:5. (AV RV chamois: but see Tristr DB 2. under the word, who points out that this is not a native of any Bible land.)

Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

זֶמֶר m. occurs once, Deuteronomy 14:5, an animal, a species of deer or antelope, so named from its leaping (see זָמַר Piel No. 3 ), like דִּישׁוֹן from דּוּשׁ, דּוּץ. (Arab. زمر to leap as a goat.)
