Crit. 177 Muss-Arn JBL xi.1 (1892), 86; Hebraica. vii. 89 R. 17; Nusku is a solar diety, compare Jastr Rel. Bab. 220 f.

נִסְרֹךְ [Nisroch], pr.n. of an idol of the Ninevites, 2 Kings 19:37; Isaiah 37:38 perhaps eagle, great eagle; from the Phœnicio-Shemitic נֶשֶׁר, نِسْرُ, and the syllable اك, which, in Persian, is intensive; like تابنك most splendid; فرناك (Φαρνάκης) most magnificent. As to Phœnicio-Shemitic roots inflected in the Persian manner, see Bohlenii Symb. § 4. As to the worship of the eagle, see Jauh. ap. Gol. v. نِسْرُ.
