שְׁלֹמֹה (“peaceable,” from שְׁלוֹם with the addition of the syllable הֹ i.q. וֹ, וֹן compare 1 Chronicles 22:9) pr.n. Solomon, the tenth son of David (1 Chronicles 3:5 compare 2 Samuel 3:5), born of Bathsheba; his father’s successor, and the third king of the Israelites (1005-975, b.c.); very celebrated for his riches, splendour, and wisdom; see -1 Ki. 211 ; 1Ch 23:1-32 -2Ch 19:1-11; Proverbs 1:1; Song of Solomon 1:1. LXX. Σαλωμών; called by Josephus, and in N. T., Σολομών.
