The door of the tent was the place of relaxation for the father. Here he would watch his family, livestock and the road for approaching visitors (see Genesis 18:1) . This root is related to the root db(a reversal of the letters) .

Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

דֹּב and דּוֹב masc. epicœne a bear, so called from its slow pace (see the root דָּבַב ), 1 Samuel 17:34, 36 1 Samuel 17:36, 37 1 Samuel 17:37; 2 Samuel 17:8; Proverbs 17:12; Hosea 13:8, דֹּב שַׁבּוּל “a bear (i.e. she bear) robbed of its whelps.” Plur. דֻּבִּים f. she bears, 2 Kings 2:24. (Arab. دُبُّ, دُبَّةُ, a he bear, a she bear.)
