Vocabulary of the Greek NT

The plural is found along with μῦθοι (as in 1 Timothy 1:4) in Polyb. ix. 2. 1 περὶ τὰς γενεαλογίας καὶ μύθους , where the reference is to the stories of the births of the demigod founders of states. Hence Hort (Jud. Christianity, p. 135 ff.) understands the word in the Pastorals not of the Gnostic groupings of aeons in genealogical relationships, but of ";all the early tales adherent, as it were, to the births of founders,"; etc.
