Thayer's Expanded Definition

ἐπιδείκνυμι; 1 aorist ἐπέδειξα; (present middle ἐπιδεικνυμαι); to exhibit, show (as though for exposition or examination (Schmidt, chapter 127, 5); from Pindar, Herodotus down.);

a. to bring forth to view: τί, Matthew 22:19; and Luke 20:24 Rec.; τί τίνι, Luke 24:40 R G; ἑαυτόν τίνι, Luke 17:14; to show i. e. bid to look at, τί τίνι, Matthew 24:1; to show i. e. furnish to be looked at, produce what may be looked at: σημεῖον, Matthew 16:1; Middle with the accusative of the thing, to display something belonging to oneself: χιτῶνας, the tunics as their own, Acts 9:39 (see Meyer).

b. to prove, demonstrate, set forth to be known and acknowledged: Hebrews 6:17; followed by the accusative and the infinitive Acts 18:28.

[in LXX: Proverbs 12:17 (H6315 hi.), Isaiah 37:26 (H935 hi.), Esp. Jer.59, 2 Maccabees 15:32, al;]

1. to show, exhibit, display: c. acc et dat., Matthew 16:1; Matthew 22:19; Matthew 24:1, Luke 17:14. Mid., to display for oneself or as one's own (but cf. El., § 55, 1): Acts 9:39.

2. to show, point out, prove: c. acc, Hebrews 6:17; c. acc et inf., Acts 18:28 (cf. MM, Exp., xiv).†

In P Ryl II. 175.14 (A.D. 168) ἐπιδεδιγμένος ἐξηγητ [ής is ";exegetes-elect."; See also P Petr III. 53(n).3 (iii/B.C.) ̣[λ ]λ᾽ οὐ τυχὼν ἐπιδείξειν (? for—δεῖξαι)[π ]ρὸς βίαν ἔχετ ̣α ̣ι ̣, ";but since he did not succeed in clearing himself he is forcibly detained;"; and for the meaning ";prove,"; as in Acts 18:28, Hebrews 6:17, cf. For the subst. see P Tor I. 1 vii. 7 (B.C. 116) μετὰ τὰς ἐπιδείξεις ταύτας ";hisce demonstratis"; (Ed.), P Oxy III. 471.90 (ii/A.D.) ὥστε καὶ ἐπίδειξις ἦν αὐτῶι πρὸς τοὺς δανειζομένους ἃ ἔπραττεν, ";and even showed off to the borrowers what he had been doing"; (Edd.).
