ἁμάρτημα, (ος, τό (from ἁμαρτέω equivalent to ἁμαρτάνω cf. ἀδίκημα, ἀλίσγημα), a sin, evil deed, ("Differunt ἁμαρτία et τό ἁμάρτημα ut Latinorum peccatus et peccatum.Nam τό ἁμάρτημα et peccatum proprie malum facinus indicant; contra ἁμαρτία et peccatus primum peccationem, τό peccare, deinde peccatum, rem consequentem, valent." Fritzsche; see ἁμαρτία, at the end; cf. also Trench, § lxvi.): Mark 3:28, and (L T Tr text WH) 29; Mark 4:12 (where G T Tr text WH omits; L Tr marginal reading brackets τά ἁμάρτημα); Romans 3:25; 1 Corinthians 6:18; 2 Peter 1:9 (R (L WH text Tr marginal reading) ἁμαρτιῶν). an act of disobedience to divine law (Lft., Notes, 273), a sinful deed, a sin: Mark 3:28-29, Romans 3:25, 1 Corinthians 6:18, 2 Peter 1:9, WH, mg.; αἰώνιων ἀ . (DCG, i, 788a), Mark 3:29 (for exx. from Papyri, v. MM, VGT, s.v.).†

In P Oxy I. 34 iii. 13 (cf. under ἁμαρτάνω ) we read τοὺς παραβάντας καὶ τοὺ [ς ] διὰ ἀπειθίαν κ [αὶ ] ὡς ἀφορμὴν ζητοῦντας ἁμαρτημάτω [ν ] τειμωρήσομαι , ";any persons who violate it, whether from mere disobedience or to serve their own nefarious purposes, will receive condign punishment."; The substantive is also found in conjunction with ἀγνόημα (see s.v.) in P Tebt I. 53 (B.C. 118) and BGU IV. 11857 (late i/B.C.) : cf. P Par 63 xiii. 2 ff., a letter of Ptolemy Euergetes II. (B.C. 165), ἀπολελυκότες πάντας τοὺς ἐνεσχημένους ἔν τισιν ἀγνοήμασιν ἢ ἁμαρτήμασιν κτλ .
