(σκηνή being used), B. 12.135, etc.: used by Trag. in lyr. and anap., A. Fr. 131, S. Aj. 190, 1407, E. IA 189: later with various meanings, Βάκχου κλισίαι, of wine- shops, IG 14.889 (Sinuessa); εὐσεβέων κλισίη, of the grave, Epigr.Gr. 237.4 (Smyrna, ii/i B.C.), cf. κλισία, κλισίας, (κλίνω; from Homer down; properly, a place for lying down or reclining; hence,

1. a hut, erected to pass the night in.

2. a tent.

3. anything to recline on; a chair in which to lean back the head, reclining-chair.

4. a company reclining; a row or party of persons reclining at meal: so in plural, Luke 9:14, on which cf. Winers Grammar, 229 (214); likewise in Josephus, Antiquities 12, 2, 12; Plutarch Sert. 26.

1. a place for reclining; hence,

(a) a hut;

(b) an easy chair;

(c) a couch.

2. a company reclining: pl., Luke 9:14 (cf. FlJ, Ant., xii, 2, 12).

Syll 737.74 (c. A.D. 175) ἐπ᾽ ἀλλοτρίαν κλισίαν ἐρχόμενος.The same meaning of ";couch"; with reference to a banquet occurs bis in Aristeas 183. See also Kaibel 810.7 f.—

Βάκχου γὰρ κλισίαις με συνέστιον ἐστεφάνωσεν,

εἰς ἐμὲ τὸν κυλίκων ὄνκον ἐφελκομένη.

";Bacchi sedibus me Victnam posuit eoque effecit, ut iam potatores gravia pocula mihi obferant et propinent"; (Ed.). For the plur. = ";companies,"; as in Luke 9:14, cf. 3 Maccabees 6:31.
