Neuter comparative of a derivative of the base of G2865
κομψότερον, neuter comparitive of the adjective κομψός (from κομέω to take care of, tend) neat, elegant, nice, fine; used adverbially, more finely, better: κομψότερον ἔσχεν, to be better, used of a convalescent, John 4:52 (ὅταν ὁ ἰατρός εἴπῃ. κομψως ἔχεις, Epictetus diss. 3, 10, 13; so in Latinbelle habere, Cicero, epistles ad div. 16, 15; (cf. English 'he's doing nicely,' 'he's getting on finely'; and) German er befindet sich hübsch; es geht hübsch mit ihm). The glossary of Hesychius refers to this passage: κομψότερον, βελτιωτερον, ἐλαφροτερον.

With the adverbial phrase John 4:52 κομψότερον ἔσχεν, ";got better"; (rather than ";began to amend"; AV, RV), cf. P Par 18.3 κομψῶς ἔχω, p Tebt 11. 414.10 (ii/A.D.) ἐὰν κομψῶς σχῶ πέμψω [τ ]ῇ θυγατρί σου κοτ ̣υ ̣λην ἲρις (";a cotyle of orris-root";), and P Oxy VI. 935.5 (iii/A.D.) θεῶν συνλαμβανόντων ἡ ἀδελφὴ ἐπὶ τ [ὸ ] κομψότερον ἐτράπη, ";with the assistance of heaven our sister has taken a turn for the better"; (Edd.). See also Epict. iii. 10. 13 ὅταν ὁ ἰατρὸς εἰσέρχηται, μὴ φοβεῖσθαι τί εἴπῃ, μηδ᾽ ἂν εἴπῃ ῾κομψῶς ἔχεις᾽, ὑπερχαίρειν : ib. ii. 18. 14 γίγνωσκε ὅτι κομψῶς σοί ἐστι. Κόμψη is found as a woman’s name in Preisigke 4119.
