III μνήμη βασίλειος the imperial cabinet or archives, τῆς β. μ. προεστώς, = Lat. a memoria, Hdn. 4.8.4, cf. D.C. 76.14 (prob.). = cross μνῆμα, tomb, AJP 48.18 (Rome).
μνήμη, μνήμης, ἡ (μνάομαι);
a. memory, remembrance;
b. mention: μνήμην ποιεῖσθαι τίνος, to remember a thing, call it to remembrance, 2 Peter 1:15; the same expression occurs in Greek writings from Herodotus down, but in the sense of Latinmentionem facere, to make mention of a thing.

νῆσος.
For this fem, subst. in -ος, it is sufficient to cite P Petr II. 28vii. 9 (iii/B.C.) ἱερᾶς νήσου, BGU IV. 1031.12 (ii/A.D.) ὅρα μὴ ἀμελήσῃς τὸν ἁλοητὸν (";threshing"; ) τῆς νήσου. The word was used (in contrast to ἤπειρος, ";high land"; ) of land flooded by the Nile, and was so designated on account of the canals by which it was intersected (see Preisigke Fachwörter s.v.). In P Oxy VIII. 1101.24 (A.D. 367–70) a Prefect gives orders that in certain circumstances a man should be deported to an island—τοῦτον νῆσον οἰκῆσαι κελεύ [ω. For the form νῆσσον which is read in Acts 13:6 D, see Crönert Mem, Herc. p. 93, and for νησιῶτις used as an adj., see P Grenf II. 15ii. 2 (B.C. 139) γῆς νησιωτίδος. MGr νησί, ";island.";
