Vocabulary of the Greek NT

This rare word = ";taking of an oath"; with reference to the whole action is confined in the NT to Hebrews 7:20-21; Hebrews 7:28. For the neut. ὁρκωμόσιον see Syll 592 (= .31007).29 (B.C. 130–100), and for the plur. OGIS 229.82 (iii/B.C.) τὰ δὲ ἱερεῖα τὰ εἰς τὰ [ὁρ ]κωμόσια ἐν Σμύρνηι [δότω ὁ ταμίας Καλ ]λῖνος. The easy transference to 1st decl. is suggested by such analogies as ἀντωμοσία. For ὁρκωμότης see P Grenf I. 11ii. 17 (B.C. 157), and cf. Preisigke Fachwörter s.v.
