II dig up, [μῶλυ] Od. 10.305; κυκλάμινον Theoc. 5.123: Med., λίθους ὠρύξατο had stones dug or quarried, Hdt. 1.186: Pass., ὁ ὀρυσσόμενος χοῦς the soil that was dug up, ib. 185; ὑπὸ μεταλλείας ὀρύττεσθαι Pl. Criti. 114e.

III dig through, i. e. make a canal through (like διορύσσειν), τὸν ἰσθμὸν ὀ. Orac. ap. Hdt. 1.174; τὸ χωρίον ὀρώρυκτο Id. 1.186; of moles, burrow, either abs., as Arist. HA 606a2; or γῆν ὀ., Id. Mir. 842b4. bury, ἔγχος.. γαίας ὀρύξας ἔνθα μήτις ὄψεται (where γαίας depends on ἔνθα) S. Aj. 659, cf. X. Oec. 19.2. of a wrestler, dig into, gouge a tender part, τὠφθαλμώ Ar. Av. 442, cf. Pax 899, Philostr. VA 8.25; gouge out, ὀφθαλμὸν ὤρυττέν τις ὥσπερ ἰχθύος Antiph. 119.

";from all sides,"; confined in NT to TR of Mark 1:45, can be readily illustrated from the Κοινή —P Oxy II. 237vii. 8 (A.D. 186) πανταχόθεν οὖν. . . τοῦ πράγματος πρ [ο ]δ ̣ήλου γενομένου, ";on all points, then, the affair being now clear,"; P Tebt II. 423.33 (early iii/A.D.) ἐὰν καλῶς πράσσῃς [λ ]α ̣β ̣ω ̣̣ν πανταχόθεν ἀγόρασον αυ ̣̓τ ̣[ο ]υ ̣̑ καλὸν χιτῶνα, ";if you fare well, get together all you can and buy there a good tunic"; (Edd.), and P Ryl II. 239.21 (mid. iii/A.D.) πανταχόθεν ἴδε αὐτ ̣ῷ μικρὸ ̣ν ̣ ο ̣̓ν ̣αρίδιον, ";look out everywhere for a small donkey for him"; (Edd.).
