happen to be near, be among, παρετύγχανε μαρναμένοισιν Il. 11.74; π. τῷ λόγῳ, τῷ πάθεϊ, to be present at.., Hdt. 7.236, 9.107; εἰς καιρόν γε παρατετύχηκεν ἡμῖν ἐν τοῖς λόγοις Πρόδικος Pl. Prt. 340e; τῇ μάχῃ Plb. 3.70.7; οἱ -τετυχηκότες τοῖς κινδύνοις Id. 12.28A. 5; but ὁ πλείστοις κινδύνοις-τετευχώς who had met with.., Id. 12.27.8: with Preps., visit, εἰς κώμην POxy. 76.11 (ii A. D.); ἐπὶ διάγνωσιν put in an appearance at.., Mitteis Chr. 89.18 (ii A. D.).

3. freq. in part. παρατυχών, whoever chanced to be by, i. e. the first comer, any chance person, οὐκ ἐκ τοῦ παρατυχόντος πυνθανόμενος Th. 1.22; σὺν τοῖς π. ἱππόταις X. Cyr. 1.4.18; also τὸ παρατυγχάνον or παρατυχόν whatever turns up or chances, ποιεῖν τὸ παρατυγχάνον αὐτῷ to do whatever circumstances required, Id. Eq.Mag. 9.1; πρὸς τὸ παρατυγχάνον as circumstances required, Th. 1.122; ἐν τῷ παρατυχόντι Id. 5.38; ἀποκρίνασθαι ἐκ τοῦ παρατυχόντος answer offhand, Plu. 2.154a: παρατυχόν, abs., it being in one's power, since it was in one's power to do, c. inf., Th. 1.76; ἐν καλῷ π. σφίσι ξυμβαλεῖν Id. 5.60.
