Thayer's Expanded Definition

πολιτάρχης, πολιταρχου, (i. e. ἄρχων τῶν πολιτῶν; see ἑκατοντάρχης), a ruler of a city or citizens: Acts 17:6, 8. (Boeckh, Corpus inscriptions Graec. ii., p. 52f no. 1967 (cf. Boeckh's note, and Tdf. Proleg., p. 86 note 2); in Greek writings πολίαρχος was more common.)

(1899), p. 274, an imprecation, not later than vi/A.D., on anyone who shall open the tomb of a Christian deaconess at Delphi—ἔχοι τ ]ὴν μερίδα τοῦ Εἰουδᾶ τοῦ [προδότου ] τοῦ δεσπότου ἡμῶν Ἰ [ησοῦ Χριστ ]οῦ, ";may he have the portion of Judas, the betrayer of our Lord Jesus Christ."; Cf. also Aristeas 270 ὃς γὰρ ἐπὶ τὸ πλεονεκτεῖν ὁρμᾶται, προδότης πέφυκε, ";for the man who is bent on advancing his own interests is a born traitor"; (Thackeray).
