A physical use of the verb occurs in the inscr. from the Asclepieum, Syll 802.121 (iii/B.C.), where in a blind man’s dream ἐδόκει ο [ἱ ] ὁ θεὸς ποτελθὼν τοῖς δ [α ]κτύλοις διάγειν τὰ ὄμματα, to ";draw apart"; the closed lids. The normal sense ";continue"; appears in P Tebt I. 22.16 (B.C. 112) περὶ δὲ τοῦ φυλκίτου (l. φυλακίτου) ἐάν τ ̣ε ̣ διάξη ̣σθ ̣ε (l. διάξῃ) . . . ἀντ [ι ]ποιούμενος περὶ τῶν σπερμάτων δέσμ [ιο ]ν αὐτὸν ἐξαπόστειλον πρὸς ημᾶς, ";as for the inspector, if he still continues to oppose the payment of the seed, send him to us under arrest"; (Edd.). For the derived sense with reference to life, conduct, as 1 Timothy 2:2, Titus 3:3, cf. Michel 352.15 (ii/B.C.) τά τε πρὸς τοὺς θεοὺς εὐσεβῶς δια [γό ]μενος, P Oxy IX. 1217.6 (iii/A.D.) ὑγιαίνον [τά ] σε καὶ εὐ διάγοντα, ";in health and prosperity"; (Ed.), P Ryl II. 235.9 f. (ii/A.D.) οὐκ ἐδήλωσάς μοι περὶ τῆς εὐρωστίας σου καὶ πῶς διάγε ̣ι ̣ς ἵν [α ] καὶ ἡμεῖς περί σου ἀμερ [ί ]μνως διάγωμεν. For a similar use of the subst. cf. OGIS 308.12 (ii/B.C.) καλὴν καὶ πρέπουσαν πεποίηται τὴν διαγω [γὴν ] τοῦ βίου.
