2. in the Greek writings from Homer down, a recently married woman, young wife; a young woman; hence, in Biblical and ecclesiastical Greek, like the Hebrew כַּלָּה (which signifies both a bride and a daughter-in-law (cf. Winers Grammar, 32)), a daughter-inlaw: Matthew 10:35; Luke 12:53. (Micah 7:6; Genesis 11:31; (Genesis 38:11); Ruth 1:6 (etc.); also Josephus, Antiquities 5, 9, 1.)

The phrase καθ᾽ ὁμοιότητα, as in Hebrews 4:15; Hebrews 7:15, in the somewhat weakened sense of ";in the same way as"; is found with a gen. dependent upon it in BGU IV. 1028.15 (ii/A.D.) ἐπὶ τῆς ἐξετάσεω [ς ] κ [α ]θ᾽ ὁμοιότητ (α) ἑτέρας ἐξετ (άσεως), PSI I. 107.2 (end of ii/A.D.) καθ᾽ ὁ [μο ]ιότητα ἑτέρων δούλων, and P Oxy IX. 1202.24 (A.D. 217) κατὰ τὸ ἀναγκαῖον προσφεύγω σοι ἀξιῶν ἐνταγῆναι κ ̣ἀ ̣μοῦ τὸν υἱὸν ῇ τῶν ἐφήβων γραφῇ καθ᾽ ὁμοιότητα τῶν σὺν αὐτῷ, ";I perforce have recourse to you, requesting that my son too may be entered in the list of the ephebi in the same way as his companions"; (Ed.).
