σῦκον, Boeot. τῦκον (Stratt. 47.5), τό, fruit of the συκῆ, fig, Od. 7.121, Hdt. 2.40, etc.; βασίλεια ς. were a large kind, Philem. 241; to eat figs in the heat of the day was thought to cause fever, Pherecr. 80, Ar. Fr. 463, Nicopho 12; ξηρὰ ς. Pl. Lg. 845b: prov., ὅσῳ διαφέρει σῦκα καρδάμων 'as different as chalk from cheese', Henioch. 4.2; σύκῳ.. ς. οὐδὲ ἓν οὕτως ὅμοιον γέγονεν Poet. ap. Cic. Att. 4.8b. 2, cf. Herod. 6.60; τὰ σῦκα σῦκα.. ὀνομάζων Luc. Hist.Conscr. 41 (cf. σκάφη) ; σῦκα αἰτεῖν, prov. for τρυφᾶν, Ar. V. 302 (lyr.); σῦκον χειμῶνος ζητεῖν, of a foolish enterprise, M.Ant. 11.33.

";feast along with,"; c. dat., as in 2 Peter 2:13, occurs in BGU II. 596.10 (A.D. 84) (= Selections, p. 64) ἐρωτηθει ̣, ς ̣ κ ̣ατελθὼν συνευ ̣ωχηθῆ [ι ] ἡμεῖν ";you are also invited to come down and feast along with us.";
The simple verb εὐωχέομαι may be cited from OGIS 168.11 (B.C. 115) εὐωχηθεὶς ἐπὶ τοῦ Ἡραίου, ib. 383.157 (mid. i/B.C.) ὅπως ἕκαστος. . . ἔχῃ τὴν ἑορτὴν εὐωχούμενος ὅπου προαιρεῖται. For the subst, εὐωχία see P Oxy III. 494.24 (A.D. 156) where a testator provides for a sum to be paid to his slaves and freedmen for a feast to be celebrated yearly at his tomb on his birthday—εἰς εὐωχίαν αὐτῶν ἣν ποιήσονται πλησίον τοῦ τάφου μου κατ᾽ ἔτος τῇ γενεθλίᾳ μου.
