Niphal

(1) to lean upon, to rest upon, as a spear, followed by עַל 2 Samuel 1:6. נִשְׁעַן עַל יַד פּ׳ to lean on any one’s hand, spoken of kings, who were accustomed to go in public leaning on their friends and ministers, 2 Kings 5:18, 7:2, 17 2 Kings 7:17. Metaph. to repose confidence in any person or thing, followed by עַל Isaiah 10:20, 31:1 Job 8:15; 2 Chronicles 13:18, 14:10 16:7 Micah 3:11 followed by אֶל Proverbs 3:5 followed by בְּ Isaiah 50:10 absol. Job, 24:23.
