Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

אֵבוּס (from the root אָבַס), by a Syriacism, for אֱבוּס; whence const. אֵבוּס Isaiah 1:3 pl. אֲבוּסִים m. a place where cattle are fattened, a stable, stall, Job 39:9, and in which provender is kept, Proverbs 14:4. The signification of stable is also suitable in Isaiah 1:3, where however LXX. and Vulg. render prœsepe, manger, which both in this place, and Job loc. cit. is not less suitable and probable. Compare Arab, أَرِىُّ Ch. אוּרְיָא stable and manger. So אבוס is also used in the Talmud.
