הַוָּה f. verbal of Piel, from הָוָה

(1)  desire, cupidity, from the root No. 2, Proverbs 10:3, הַוַּת רְשָׁעִים יֶהְדֹּף “she casts away the desire of the wicked.” Parall. נֶפֶשׁ צַדִּיק. Comp. אַוָּה. (Arab. هَوًى desire, will), Proverbs 19:13; Job 6:2, 30:13 (in these two latter places the קרי is הַיָּה). [See also No. 2, to which these three passages are also referred; in Thes. they are omitted under No. 1.]

(2) ruin, fall (Arab. هَوْىُ), from the root No. 3. Hence calamity, destruction. Psalms 57:2, עַד־יַעֲבֹר הַוּוֹת “until destruction be past;” Psal. 91:3, דֶּבֶר הַוּוֹת “the destroying pestilence;” Psalms 94:20; Proverbs 19:13; Job 6:2, 30:13. Hence also, destruction which any one brings upon another, injury, mischief, wickedness. Psal. 5:10, קִרְבָּם הַוּוֹת “their inward part is very wickedness;” Psalms 38:13, דִּבְּרוּ הַוּוֹת “they speak of mischiefs;” Psalms 52:4, Psalms 52:9, 55:12 Proverbs 11:6, 17:4, מֵזִין עַל־לְשׁוֹן הַוּוֹת “listening to a mischievous tongue;” Job 6:30.
