Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

יַהֲלֹם m. a kind of hard gem, so called from the idea of striking (root הָלַם), Exodus 28:18, 39:11 Ezekiel 28:13. The ancient translators sometimes render this by diamond, sometimes by emerald, sometimes by jasper; but this last is certainly incorrect, for in Eze. loc. cit. it is joined with יַשְׁפֶּה, which can hardly be doubted to be the jasper.
