Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition
מָרָא i.q. מָרֵא مَرَى
(1) to lash a horse with a whip to quicken its speed (ftreichen, anpeitfchen), see Hiphil.
(2) to be contumacious, rebellious. Part. fem. מוֹרְאָה i.q. מוֹרָה rebel, Zephaniah 3:1.
Hiphil, once used of the ostrich rising from her nest, and by flapping her wings impelling herself on, as if with a whip. Job 39:18, כָּעֵת בַּמָּרוֹם תַּמְרִיא “now she lashes up herself on high.” Compare שׁוּט and שׁוֹט. The ancient versions, “lifts up herself, rises,” as if מָרָא were with the letters transposed, i.q. רָאַם = רוּם.
