 [נָקַר] verb bore, pick, dig (Late Hebrew id., Aramaic נְקַר id.; Arabic perforate, bore out, hollow out Lane2838; Ethiopic be one-eyed Di645); —

Qal Imperfect 3 masculine plural suffix יִקְּרוּהָ Proverbs 30:17; Infinitive נְקוֺר 1 Samuel 11:3, both of boring, or picking out eye (accusative).

Pi`el Imperfect. 2 masculine singular תְּנַקֵּר Numbers 16:14 (JE), 3 masculine plural וַיְנַקְּרוּ Judges 16:21 both of boring out eyes (accusative); Perfect 3 masculine singular נִקַּר Job 30:17 he (or it, i.e. the night) boreth my bones מֵעָלָ֑י (of effects of elephantiasis; Bu reads נֻקַּר).

Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

נָקַר fut. יִקֹּר to bore, to pierce, especially used of boring out any one’s eye, 1 Samuel 11:2; Proverbs 30:17, “the ravens of the valley shall pick it (the eye) out;” Numbers 16:14; Judges 16:21 [Both Piel].

(Arab. id.; Eth. ነቋረ፡ to be blind of one eye, ነቀለ፡ to pull out.)

Piel id. Job 30:17, לַיְלָה עֲצָמִי נִקַּר “the night pierces my bones,” i.e. by night my bones are, as it were, pierced with pain; compare Job 3:3.

Pual, to be dug out, Isaiah 51:1, “the quarry (whence) נֻקַּרְתֶּם ye were digged;” metaph. used of the ancestors of a nation. Hence
