עֵשָׂו pr.n. (i.e. “hairy,” “rough,” Genesis 25:25), Esau, the son of Isaac, the twin brother of Jacob, called also אֱדֹם, which is, however, more used with regard to his posterity than of the man himself. On the other hand, בְּנֵי עֵשָׂו Deuteronomy 2:4, seq.; בֵּית עֵשָׂו Obadiah 1:18, and עֵשָׂו Jerem. 49:8, 10 Jeremiah 49:10; Obadiah 1:6, used of the Esauites, i.e. the Edomites, rather as a poetical expression. הַר עֵשָׂו the mount of Esau, i.e. of the Edomites, Obadiah 1:8,, 19.
