1. a. razor, absolute ׳יְגַלַּח בְּת Isaiah 7:20 (figurative); subject of לֹא יַעֲבֹר עַלרֿאֹשׁ Numbers 6:5, object of הֶעֱבִיר עַלֿ Numbers 8:7 (P), compare construct הַגַּלָּבִים׳ת Ezekiel 5:1; absolute מְלֻטָּשׁ׳כְּת Psalm 52:4 (simile of tongue).

b. construct הַסֹּפֵר׳ת Jeremiah 36:23 = penknife.

תַּעַר m. (f. Isaiah 7:20?) with suff. תַּעְרִי pr. making naked, emptying (for תַּעֲרֶה from the root עָרָה)

(1)  a razor (pr. a naked thin plate, or making the skin bare), Numbers 6:5, 8:7 Isaiah 7:20. תַּעַר הַסֹּפֵר a writer’s pen-knife, with which he sharpens his reed, Jeremiah 36:23.

(2) the sheath of a sword (perhaps so called from emptiness, see the root Piel, No. 3). 1 Samuel 17:51; Ezekiel 21:8, 10 Ezekiel 21:10, 35 Eze 21:35 Jeremiah 47:6.
