אֲבַגְתָא [Abagtha], Persic, pr.n. of a eunuch in the court of Xerxes, Esther 1:10. As to the etymology, see בִּגְתָא. [“It seems to be the same as בִּגְתָא, and may be explained from the Sansc. bagadáta, ‘given by fortune,’ from baga, fortune, sun. (Bohlen).”-Ges. add.]
