Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

אָבִיב (from the root אָבַב), m., an ear of corn, a green ear, Leviticus 2:14; Exodus 9:31, הַשְּׂעוֹרָה (בְ)אָבִיב “the barley was in the ear,” i.e. the ears were developed. Comp. as to the syntax, Song of Solomon 2:13, חֹדֶשׁ הָאָבִיב “the month of green ears,” at a later period called נִיסָן beginning at the new moon of April (of March, according to the Rabbins), the first month of the old year [as instituted on coming out of Egypt], Exodus 13:4, 23:15 Deuteronomy 16:1.
