Psalms 24,25,26

Psalm 24

Of David. A psalm.

1 The earth is the Lord 's,(a) and everything in it,
the world, and all who live in it;(b)
2 for he founded it on the seas
and established it on the waters.(c)

3 Who may ascend the mountain(d) of the Lord ?
Who may stand in his holy place?(e)
4 The one who has clean hands(f) and a pure heart,(g)
who does not trust in an idol(h)
or swear by a false god.[a]

5 They will receive blessing(i) from the Lord
and vindication(j) from God their Savior.
6 Such is the generation of those who seek him,
who seek your face,(k) God of Jacob.[b][c]

7 Lift up your heads, you gates;(l)
be lifted up, you ancient doors,
that the King(m) of glory(n) may come in.(o)
8 Who is this King of glory?
     The Lord strong and mighty,(p)
     the Lord mighty in battle.(q)
9 Lift up your heads, you gates;
lift them up, you ancient doors,
that the King of glory may come in.
10 Who is he, this King of glory?
     The Lord Almighty(r)
he is the King of glory.

Psalm 25[a]

Of David.

1 In you, Lord my God,
     I put my trust.(a)

2 I trust in you;(b)
do not let me be put to shame,
nor let my enemies triumph over me.
3 No one who hopes in you
will ever be put to shame,(c)
but shame will come on those
     who are treacherous(d) without cause.

4 Show me your ways, Lord ,
     teach me your paths.(e)
5 Guide me in your truth(f) and teach me,
for you are God my Savior,(g)
and my hope is in you(h) all day long.
6 Remember, Lord , your great mercy and love,(i)
for they are from of old.
7 Do not remember the sins of my youth(j)
     and my rebellious ways;(k)
according to your love(l) remember me,
for you, Lord , are good.(m)

8 Good and upright(n) is the Lord ;
therefore he instructs(o) sinners in his ways.
9 He guides(p) the humble in what is right
     and teaches them(q) his way.
10 All the ways of the Lord are loving and faithful(r)
toward those who keep the demands of his covenant.(s)
11 For the sake of your name,(t) Lord ,
forgive(u) my iniquity,(v) though it is great.

12 Who, then, are those who fear the Lord ?(w)
He will instruct them in the ways(x) they should choose.[b]
13 They will spend their days in prosperity,(y)
and their descendants will inherit the land.(z)
14 The Lord confides(aa) in those who fear him;
he makes his covenant known(ab) to them.
15 My eyes are ever on the Lord ,(ac)
for only he will release my feet from the snare.(ad)

16 Turn to me(ae) and be gracious to me,(af)
for I am lonely(ag) and afflicted.
17 Relieve the troubles(ah) of my heart
and free me from my anguish.(ai)
18 Look on my affliction(aj) and my distress(ak)
and take away all my sins.(al)
19 See how numerous are my enemies(am)
and how fiercely they hate me!(an)

20 Guard my life(ao) and rescue me;(ap)
do not let me be put to shame,(aq)
for I take refuge(ar) in you.
21 May integrity(as) and uprightness(at) protect me,
because my hope, Lord ,[c] is in you.(au)

22 Deliver Israel,(av) O God,
     from all their troubles!

Psalm 26

Of David.

1 Vindicate me,(a) Lord ,
     for I have led a blameless life;(b)
I have trusted(c) in the Lord
     and have not faltered.(d)
2 Test me,(e) Lord , and try me,
examine my heart and my mind;(f)
3 for I have always been mindful of your unfailing love(g)
and have lived(h) in reliance on your faithfulness.(i)

4 I do not sit(j) with the deceitful,
nor do I associate with hypocrites.(k)
5 I abhor(l) the assembly of evildoers
and refuse to sit with the wicked.
6 I wash my hands in innocence,(m)
and go about your altar, Lord ,
7 proclaiming aloud your praise(n)
and telling of all your wonderful deeds.(o)

8  Lord , I love(p) the house where you live,
the place where your glory dwells.(q)
9 Do not take away my soul along with sinners,
my life with those who are bloodthirsty,(r)
10 in whose hands are wicked schemes,(s)
whose right hands are full of bribes.(t)
11 I lead a blameless life;
deliver me(u) and be merciful to me.

12 My feet stand on level ground;(v)
in the great congregation(w) I will praise the Lord .

John 10:22-42

Chapter 10

22 Then came the Festival of Dedication[b] at Jerusalem. It was winter, 23 and Jesus was in the temple courts walking in Solomon's Colonnade.(ag) 24 The Jews(ah) who were there gathered around him, saying, "How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly."(ai)

25 Jesus answered, "I did tell you,(aj) but you do not believe. The works I do in my Father's name testify about me,(ak) 26 but you do not believe because you are not my sheep.(al) 27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them,(am) and they follow me.(an) 28 I give them eternal life,(ao) and they shall never perish;(ap) no one will snatch them out of my hand.(aq) 29 My Father, who has given them to me,(ar) is greater than all[c];(as) no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand. 30 I and the Father are one."(at)

31 Again his Jewish opponents picked up stones to stone him,(au) 32 but Jesus said to them, "I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?"

33 "We are not stoning you for any good work," they replied, "but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God."(av)

34 Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your Law,(aw) ‘I have said you are "gods"'[d]?(ax) 35 If he called them ‘gods,' to whom the word of God(ay) came—and Scripture cannot be set aside(az) 36 what about the one whom the Father set apart(ba) as his very own(bb) and sent into the world?(bc) Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, ‘I am God's Son'?(bd) 37 Do not believe me unless I do the works of my Father.(be) 38 But if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father."(bf) 39 Again they tried to seize him,(bg) but he escaped their grasp.(bh)

40 Then Jesus went back across the Jordan(bi) to the place where John had been baptizing in the early days. There he stayed, 41 and many people came to him. They said, "Though John never performed a sign,(bj) all that John said about this man was true."(bk) 42 And in that place many believed in Jesus.(bl)
