(i' jahn) Place name meaning, “ruin.” Place in northern Israel captured by King Ben-Hadad of Damascus as a result of his agreement with King Asa of Judah (910-869 B.C.) to break the treaty between Damascus and Baasha, king of Israel (1 Kings 15:20 ). This forced Baasha to defend himself on the northern border and quit intruding on Judah's territory, giving Asa opportunity to strengthen his defenses (1 Kings 15:21-22 ). Tiglath-pileser conquered the city and carried many Israelites into captivity about 734 B.C. (2 Kings 15:29 ). Ijon is located near modern Marj Uyun between the rivers Litani and Hesbani at tell Dibbin.
