1 But the R129 Spirit explicitly says that in R130 later times some will fall F38 away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful R131 spirits and doctrines R132 of demons, 2 by means of the hypocrisy of liars seared R133 in their own conscience as with a branding iron, 3men who forbid R134 marriage and advocate abstaining R135 from foods which God R136 has created to be gratefully R137 shared in by those who believe and know the truth. 4 For everything R138 created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received R139 with gratitude; 5 for it is sanctified by means of the R140 word of God and prayer.
A Good Minister's Discipline
6 In pointing out these things to the R141 brethren, you will be a good servant R142 of Christ Jesus, constantly nourished on the words of the faith and of the sound R143F39 doctrine which you have R144 been following. 7 But have F40 nothing to do with worldly R145 fables R146 fit only for old women. On the other hand, discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness; R1478 for bodily R148 discipline is only of little profit, but godliness R149 is profitable for all things, since it holds R150 promise for the present R151 life and also for the life to come. 9 It R152 is a trustworthy statement deserving full acceptance. 10 For it is for this we labor and strive, because we have fixed our R153 hope on the R154 living God, who is the R155 Savior of all men, especially of believers.
11 Prescribe R156F41 and teach these things. 12 Let R157 no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, R158 faith and purity, show yourself an R159 example of F42 those who believe. 13 Until R160 I come, give attention to the public reading R161of Scripture, to exhortation and teaching. 14 Do not neglect the spiritual gift within you, which was bestowed on you through prophetic R162 utterance with the R163 laying on of hands by the presbytery. R164F4315 Take pains with these things; be absorbed in them, so that your progress will be evident to all. 16 Pay R165 close attention to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in these things, for as you do this you will ensure R166F44 salvation both for yourself and for those who hear you.
