1 For this reason we must pay much closer attention to what F9 we have heard, so that we R36 do not drift away from it.2 For if the word spoken R37 through angels R38 proved unalterable, F10 and every R39 transgression and disobedience received a just penalty, R40F113 how R41 will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? R42 After F12 it was at the first spoken R43 through the Lord, it was confirmed R44 to us by those who heard, 4 God also testifying with them, both by signs R45 and wonders and by various R46 miracles F13 and by gifts R47F14 of the Holy Spirit according R48 to His own will.
Earth Subject to Man
5 For He did not subject to angels the R49F15 world to come, concerning which we are speaking. 6 But one has testified somewhere, R50 saying,
"WHAT R51 IS MAN, THAT YOU REMEMBER HIM?
OR THE SON OF MAN, THAT YOU ARE CONCERNED ABOUT HIM?
7 "YOU R52 HAVE MADE HIM FOR F16 A LITTLE WHILE LOWER THAN THE ANGELS;
YOU HAVE CROWNED HIM WITH GLORY AND HONOR,
AND F17 HAVE APPOINTED HIM OVER THE WORKS OF YOUR HANDS;
8 YOU R53 HAVE PUT ALL THINGS IN SUBJECTION UNDER HIS FEET."
For in subjecting all things to him, He left nothing that is not subject to him. But now we R54 do not yet see all things subjected to him.
Jesus Briefly Humbled
9 But we do see Him who was made R55 for F18 a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, because R56 of the suffering of death crowned R57 with glory and honor, so that by R58 the grace of God He might taste R59 death for R60 everyone.
10 For it R61 was fitting for Him, for R62 whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect R63 the author R64F19 of their salvation through sufferings. 11 For both He who sanctifies R65 and those who are R66 sanctified F20 are all from R67 one Father; for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren, R6812 saying,
"I R69 WILL PROCLAIM YOUR NAME TO MY BRETHREN,
IN THE MIDST OF THE CONGREGATION I WILL SING YOUR PRAISE." 13 And again,
"I R70 WILL PUT MY TRUST IN HIM."
And again,
"BEHOLD R71 , I AND THE CHILDREN WHOM GOD HAS GIVEN ME."
14 Therefore, since the children share in flesh R72F21 and blood, He R73 Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through R74 death He might render powerless him R75 who had the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and might free those who through fear R76 of death were subject to slavery all their lives. 16 For assuredly He does not give F22 help to angels, but He gives help to the descendant F23 of Abraham. 17 Therefore, He had F24 to R77 be made like His brethren in all things, so that He might become R78 a merciful and faithful high R79 priest in things R80 pertaining to God, to make R81 propitiation for the sins of the people. 18 For since He Himself was tempted R82 in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted.
