DELIVER me, O LORD, from the evil man; preserve me from violent men,

Who devise mischiefs in their heart; continually do they stir up contention.

They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent; adders poison is under their lips.

Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from violent men, who have purposed to prevent my goings.

The proud have hid a snare for me; the cords of their net have they spread over my paths; they have set a trap for me.

I said to the LORD, Thou art my God; hear the voice of my supplications, O LORD.

O LORD, my mighty Saviour, thou art the shield of my head in the day of battle.

Grant not, O LORD, the desires of the wicked; further not their wicked devices; let them not accomplish their purpose.

Let the mischief of their own lips cover them.

Let burning coals fall upon them; let them fall into the fire, that they rise not up again.

Let not an evil speaker be established in the earth; evil shall hunt the violent man to destroy him.

I know that the LORD will defend the cause of the afflicted and the right of the poor.

Surely the righteous shall give thanks to thy name; the upright shall dwell in thy presence.

LORD, I cry to thee; make haste to answer me; give ear to my words and accept them.

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense, and the gift of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips,

So that my heart may not incline to evil things, and practise wicked works with men who work iniquity; let me not eat salt with them.

Let the righteous teach me and reprove me; let the oil of the wicked not anoint my head since my prayer has been against their evils.

When their judges are stopped by a strong hand, they shall hear my words; for they are sweet.

Like the ploughshare that scatters the earth, let their bones be scattered at the mouth of the grave.

I have lifted up mine eyes to thee, O LORD; I have trusted in thee; do not reject my soul.

Keep me from the hand of the proud, for they have set traps for me.

Let the wicked together fall into their own nets, whilst I shall pass over.

I CRIED to the LORD with voice; my with my voice to the LORD did I make my supplication.

I poured out my complaint before him; I showed before him my trouble.

When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, then thou knewest my path. In the way wherein I walked have they secretly laid a snare for me.

I looked on my right hand, and there was no one to advise me; refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul.

I cried to thee, O LORD; I said, Thou art my hope and my portion, O LORD, in the land of the living.

Attend to my cry; for I am brought very low; deliver me from my persecutors, for they are stronger than I.

Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise thy name; thy righteous shall wait for me until thou shalt reward me.

HEAR my prayer, O LORD, give ear to my supplications; in thine own words answer me, and in thy righteousness.

And do not let thy servant be brought to judgment; for in thy sight shall no man living be justified.

For the enemy has persecuted my soul; he has smitten my life down to the ground; he has made me to dwell in darkness, like those who have been long dead.

Therefore is my spirit overwhelmed within me; my heart within me is troubled.

I remember thee, O LORD, from days of old; I meditate on all thy works; I muse on the work of thy hands.

I stretch forth my hands to thee; my soul thirsts after thee, as a thirsty land.

Answer me speedily, O LORD; my spirit fails; hide not thy face from me, lest I be like them who go down into the pit.

Cause me to hear of thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust; cause me to know the way wherein I should walk, for I lift up my soul to thee.

Deliver me, O LORD, from mine enemies, and teach me to do thy will.

Because thou art my God, thy gentle spirit shall lead me into the way of life.

Comfort me, O LORD, for thy names sake; for thy righteousness sake bring my soul out of trouble.

And by thy mercy silence those who hate me, and destroy all the enemies of my soul; for I am thy servant.

BLESSED be the LORD, my strength, who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight;

My refuge and my deliverer; my shield and my helper, upon whom I trust, who subdues nations under me.

LORD, what is man, that thou takest knowledge of him? or the son of man, that thou art mindful of him?

Man is like vapour; his days are as a shadow that passes away.

Bow thy heavens, O LORD, and come down; rebuke the mountains, and they shall smoke.

Cast forth lightning, and scatter them; shoot out thine arrows, and destroy them.

Stretch forth thy hand from above; deliver me out of great waters, from the hand of the ungodly,

Whose mouths speak vanity, and their right hand is a right hand of falsehood.

I will sing a new song to thee, O God; upon a psaltery and an instrument of ten strings will I sing praises to thee.

It is he who gives salvation to kings; who delivers David his servant from the hurtful sword.

Deliver me from the hand of the wicked, whose mouths speak vanity, and their right hand is a right hand of falsehood,

That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth; that our daughters may be as brides richly adorned after the fashion of temples;

That our storehouses may be full to overflowing; that our sheep may multiply abundantly in our streets;

That our cattle may be strong and there be none barren among them; that there be no stealing, and that there be no mourning in our streets.

Happy is the people who have all these things; yea, happy is the people, whose God is the LORD.
