IN my distress I cried to the LORD, and he heard me.

Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lips of the ungodly and from deceitful tongues.

What shall be given to you? or what shall be added to you, you deceitful tongues?

The arrows of the mighty are sharp; they are as hot coals of oak.

Woe is me, that my sojourn is prolonged, that I dwell in the tents of Kedar!

My soul has long dwelt with him that hates peace.

I am for peace; but when I speak they fight with me.

I WILL lift up mine eyes to the mountain from whence comes my help.

My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.

He will not allow your foot to be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber.

Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

The LORD is your keeper; the LORD will protect you with his right hand.

The sun shall not smite you by day, nor the moon by night.

The LORD will preserve you from all evil; he will preserve your soul.

The LORD will preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth and even for evermore.

I WAS glad when they said to me, Let us go to the house of the LORD.

My feet shall stand within your gates, O Jerusalem.

Jerusalem is built like a city that is surrounded by a wall,

Whither the tribes go up, the tribes of the LORD, to the testimony of Israel, to give thanks to the name of the LORD.

For there are thrones of judgment set, the thrones of the house of David.

Greet Jerusalem with peace; they shall prosper who love you.

Peace be within your walls and prosperity within your palaces.

For my brethren and companions sakes, I will now say, Peace be within you.

For the sake of the house of the LORD our God, I will seek your good.

TO thee lift I up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heaven.

Behold, as the eyes of servants look towards their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden look towards her mistress; so also our eyes look towards the LORD our God, until he shall have mercy upon us.

Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us; for we have heard a great deal of contempt.

Our soul has enough of the scorn of mockers, and enough of the contempt of the proud.

IF it had not been the LORD who stood on our side, now may Israel say,

If it had not been the LORD who stood on our side when men rose up against us,

Then would they have swallowed us alive when their wrath was kindled against us,

Then would they have drowned us in the waters, the stream would have gone over us;

Then the great waters would have gone over us.

Blessed be the LORD, who has not given us as a prey to their teeth.

Our soul has escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers; the snare is broken, and we are delivered.

Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth.

THEY who trust in the LORD in the mount of Zion shall not be moved, but shall dwell there for ever.

As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about his people from henceforth even for ever.

For the rod of the wicked shall not rest upon the portion of the righteous; neither shall the righteous put forth their hands to iniquity.

Do good, O LORD, to those who are good, and to them who are upright in their hearts.

But as for those who follow their crooked ways, the LORD will scatter them together with the workers of iniquity; but peace will be upon Israel.

WHEN the LORD brought back the people of Zion from captivity, we were like those that rejoice.

Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing; then said they among the heathen, The LORD has done great things for them.

The LORD has done great things for us, whereof we are joyful.

Turn again our captivity, O LORD, like the streams in the south.

They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.

He who goes forth and weeps, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.

EXCEPT the LORD build the house, they labor in vain who build it; except the LORD keep the city, the watchmen stay awake in vain.

It is in vain for those who rise up early, who sit up late; they eat the bread of sorrows, for so he gives in sleep to his beloved.

Lo, children are a heritage of the LORD; and the fruit of the womb is a reward.

Like arrows in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.

Blessed is the man who has his quiver full of them; he shall not be ashamed, but shall speak with enemies in the gate.

BLESSED is every one who fears the LORD, that walks in his ways.

For you shall eat the labour of your hands; happy shall you be, and it shall be well with you.

Your wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of your house; your children like olive plants round about your table.

Behold, thus shall the man be blessed who fears the LORD.

The LORD will bless you out of Zion; and you shall see the good of Jerusalem all the days of your life.

Yea, you shall see your childrens children, and peace upon Israel.

MY oppressors have been many from my youth, may Israel now say;

My oppressors have been many from my youth, yet they have not prevailed against me.

They have scourged me upon my back; they have made long their oppression.

The LORD is righteous; he will cut asunder the cord of the wicked.

Let them all be confounded and turned back that hate Zion.

Let them be as the grass upon the house tops, which pulls out and withers when the wind strikes it,

Wherewith the reaper fills not his hand, nor he who binds sheaves his bosom.

Neither do they who pass by say, The blessing of the LORD be upon you; we bless you in the name of the LORD.

BUT of the depths have I cried to thee, O LORD, and thou hast heard my voice.

Let thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications.

If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O LORD, who shall stand?

Because forgiveness comes from thee, thou mayest be revered.

I trust in the LORD, my soul waits for his word.

I have waited for the LORD from the morning watch even until the night watch.

Let Israel hope in the LORD; from him comes mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption.

He shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.

LORD, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty; neither do I deal in great matters, nor in things too high for me.

Surely I have humbled and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of its mother; my soul is even as a weaned child.

Let Israel hope in the LORD from henceforth and for ever.

LORD, remember David, and all his afflictions:

How he swore to the LORD, and vowed to the mighty God of Jacob;

Surely I will not come into the tabernacle of my house, nor go up into my bed;

Nor will I give sleep to mine eyes or slumber to mine eyelids

Until I find a place for the LORD, a habitation for the mighty God of Jacob.

Lo, we heard of it at Ephratah; we found it in the fields.

We will go into his tabernacles; we will worship at his footstool.

Arise. O LORD, enter into the place of thy rest, thou, and the ark of thy strength.

Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness, and thy saints with glory.

For thy servant Davids sake turn not away the face of thine anointed.

The LORD has sworn in truth to David (he will not turn from it): Of the fruit of your body will I set up your throne.

If your children will keep my covenant and my testimony that shall teach them, their children shall also sit upon your throne for evermore.

For the LORD has been delighted with Zion; he has chosen it for his habitation.

This is my rest for ever; here will I dwell, for I have desired it.

I will abundantly bless her hunters; I will satisfy her poor with bread.

I will also clothe her priests with salvation and her saints with glory.

There shall I make the horn of David to shine, and light a lamp for his anointed?

His enemies will I clothe with shame; but my holiness shall cover him.

BEHOLD, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

It is like the precious ointment upon the head and upon the beard, even Aarons beard, that went down to the collar of his robe;

Like the dew of Hermon that falls upon the mount of Zion; for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.

BEHOLD, bless the LORD, all you servants of the LORD, who by night stand in the house of the LORD.

Lift up your hands towards the sanctuary, and bless the LORD.

The LORD bless you out of Zion, even he who made heaven and earth.
