Daric
Holman Bible Dictionary
A Persian gold coin equivalent to four days' wages, probably introduced by Darius I (522-486 B.C.), and possibly the earliest coined money used by the Jews who became acquainted with it during the Exile. Offerings for the reconstruction of the Temple were made in darics (Ezra 2:69; Nehemiah 7:70 ,Nehemiah 7:70,7:72 ). Some interpreters understand the 20 gold basins in Ezra 8:27 to be worth 1,000 darics each. Others take this as a weight of about 19 pounds or 8.5 kilograms.
