WITHHOLD, pret. and pp. withheld. with and hold.

1. TO hold back to restrain to keep from action.

Withhold--your hasty hand.

If our passions may be withheld.

2. To retain to keep back not to grant as, to withhold assent to a proposition. The sun does not withhold his light.
